MINIPHLEBECTOMY (STAB AVULSION)

Miniphlebectomy (Stab Avulsions) is a method of surgical removal or avulsion of varicose veins through tiny skin incisions. The ambulatory phlebectomy is a safe and immediately effective procedure for the treatment of varicose veins which is usually performed under local anesthesia. Phlebectomy can be considered as an additional treatment in association with endovenous ablation of refluxing vein or as the exclusive procedure for treatment of varicose veins.

Avulsions of the varicose veins are performed with hooks through a tiny skin incision or a puncture hole. Digital compression is applied immediately and the skin incisions are usually approximated with adhesive sterile strips. Elastic bandage or compression stocking is placed on the leg at the end of procedure for a short period of time. Early ambulation is encouraged and the patient leaves for home a few hours after the procedure. Ambulatory phlebectomy is often performed in conjunction with minimally invasive endovenous catheter procedures or stripping.

In some cases miniphlebectomies may be performed in conjunction with sclerptherpy.

Advantage and benefits of miniphlebectomies include :

  • Wound approximation with steri strips (no stitches used)
  • Minimal scarring (excellent cosmetic resuts)
  • Fast recovery with long-lasting results
